WEBCAST: Breaking the Project Failure Cycle: Delivering On-Time, On-Budget and On-Specification with Glen Alleman, Lewis & Fowler’s Director Strategic Consulting and Scott Daley, Senior Consultant, Microsoft.
Presented Wednesday, July 11, 2007
Project failure is itself a complex process – technical, financial, personnel, timescales, planning, physical setbacks. There are numerous suggestions on how to avoid Project Failures. But there some common behaviors found in all these "lists:"
  • Pick the right project.
  • Have an effective management approach that defines a Project Leadership and Project Delivery organization with clear and concise descriptions of accountability and responsibility.
  • Actively manage risks at the technical, programmatic and personnel levels.
  • Identify the strategy for delivering the work based on measurable outcomes.
  • This presentation described how to go beyond these important ideas and establish a Project Management Process for Breaking the Cycle of Project Failure. This process-based approach is independent of any project management tool set. It enables a set of Best Practices developed in a variety of industries built on the foundation of establishing a Performance Measurement Baseline that incorporates risk management, resource management, and deliverables based planning.

Society for Information Management (SIM) – Arizona Chapter
On March 21, 2007, Glen Alleman, Lewis & Fowler's Director Strategic Consulting, spoke about Putting Balanced Scorecards to Work in IT. Many Balanced Scorecard implementations remain in the hands of strategic planners. They become a conversation piece in boardrooms or at executive management meetings. Connecting the strategies developed in the Balanced Scorecard with executable projects is the key to guiding IT's success. This success is critically important for an IT organization, since IT has little control over the strategies defined in the Financial Perspective of the Scorecard. This presentation described the step-by-step process of building an IT Balanced Scorecard, identifying Goals, Critical Success Factors, the Key Performance Indicators and connecting these to executable projects. For a copy of the presentation, please click here.
